Selection Logic of Flame Retardant Materials for Power Connectors

The selection of flame-retardant materials for power connectors needs to comprehensively consider flame retardant efficiency, mechanical properties, electrical insulation, environmental adaptability and cost controllability.

 

PA66 engineering plastic is one of the preferred materials in this field, and its selection logic can be summarized in three points:

 

First, flame-retardant modified PA66 (e.g., adding brominated or halogen-free flame retardants) can easily meet the UL94 V-0 rating, with flame retardant efficiency superior to ordinary plastics. It can form a carbon layer to block flames during high-temperature combustion, avoiding rapid material decomposition;

 

Second, PA66 has excellent mechanical strength and impact resistance, with a tensile strength of more than 70MPa, which can meet the mechanical operation requirements such as insertion, extraction and locking of connectors. At the same time, its dielectric strength is ≥20kV/mm, ensuring electrical insulation safety;

 

Third, PA66 has a temperature resistance range of -40℃~105℃, adapting to temperature fluctuations in industrial, data center and other scenarios. Moreover, halogen-free flame-retardant PA66 meets the RoHS environmental standard, aligning with the strict ESG requirements of overseas markets. In addition, for special high-temperature scenarios, high-performance flame-retardant plastics such as PBT and LCP can be used in combination to further improve the synergy of flame retardancy and temperature resistance through material compounding.
